We had a pretty busy boat over the long holiday weekend. We fished Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings and ended up with 42 bites and 30 fish (29 lake trout and 1 steelhead). We’re pretty sure we had one king bite ripping out drag on a full core but it didn’t last long and threw the hook.
We basically stuck with Free Style’s program from their websites fishing report blog: https://freestylecharters.com/ludington-area-fishing-reports/
We went straight out and set up in 80-85 FOW and did North/South trolls working between 80-100 FOW. We had 4 wire divers dragging the bottom and one rigger on the bottom which accounted for just about every bite. Things slowed down for us on Sunday only boating 4 fish – we did sneak in a 23 lb laker Sunday which made the troll worth while. Of course, the only time I would have taken a fish to Captain Chucks to get it weighed they were closed because they were moving to their new store.
Our crew did a great job setting lines and reeling in fish. We had out my dad, daughter Delaney, brother-in-law Tim, nieces Morgan and Emerson and family friends Jake and Chris. Emerson ended up reeling in the 23 lb laker with a little help from Morgan helping to keep the rod high.
We are not a charter and fish for fun (for you Jim).
