I had not planned to fish today but had to be in Ludington last night and, as luck would have it, the Hiller family was camping in Manistee and was available. The water was calm and so were the fish. We started out south in Bob’s honey hole and made a couple of passes with nothing to show. We started trolling north working from 160 to 100 FOW (all salon gear out) and had a few followers along with one possible rip on a 5 color but no fish to show. It was nearing 11am and it was looking like our first skunk ever when a 200 copper took a bite straight out in 90 FOW. This had one of Mike’s prototype spoons on so, of course Mike took the rod. It was a good think he did as it ended up taking him 35 minutes to get a 25 lb king to the net. I ended up pulling in all 11 other lines during the fight. As it turned out, it was hooked funky in the side of the mouth which made it very non-hydro-dynamic. We boxed this king and all was good again.
