The crew from yesterday decided sleep was more important than fish so it was looking like it would be just Corey and I. Luckily I was able to hook up with Tim and his dad Pat. Tim lives in Ludington and has never been out on Lake Michigan and seemed pretty pumped (so much so that I felt a decent amount of pressure to get fish). We started out in the same spot as yesterday and got our 12 lines out. There were some decent marks up high and it seemed like a while before a 10 color took a bite. Tim did an excellent job getting a 22.5 lb king to the back of the boat. While Tim was fighting his fish, Pat reeled in a 2 year old king on a a 5 color. Thank God the Cherokee has some high sides as Corey almost went over the transom netting Tim’s fish (I actually had to grab him as it feet were off the floor). My pressure was off and all was good with the 2 fish. We made several more passes, pulling lines at 9:45am. We took 2 more bites; another smaller king on a 200 copper and a monster hit on a black meat rig set 34 down on a rigger. The big king took Corey out to 360 on the Tekota and it took him 25 minutes to get the counter to read 240. There was a ton of pressure on the rod and the hooks came out – not much we could do but one day I’d sure like to see something over 30 lbs in the boat.
