Matt and Scotty joined me for a great troll today. We arrived at the Sterling State Park launch at 7:08am to join the hundreds of others who had the same idea. The trailers were lined up around the entire parking lot and it’s a huge parking lot. We launched around 7:45am and were setting lines just after 8am. We knew there was a good bite at the state line and were heading that way but pulled up in 23 FOW dues to the marks we seen on the screen. We started off with 4 spoons on 2 and 3 color leadcore and and 4 #7 flicker shads. As soon as we had the lines set we had a double going on the spoons – bah – 2 sheephead! those sheephead must really love the spoons because we ended up with 12 of them for the morning. Our ending spread was 2 spoons on 2 and 3 color leadcore, 3 bandits 40-50 back and 4 #7 flicker shads 50-90 back. We boated out 18th keeper walleye around 11:30am. They final count was 20 walleye, 12 sheephead, 2 silver bass and a catfish. We lost another 5-6 fish. Around 40 bites in 3.5 hours made for a fun morning. We never made it to the state line and just kept making passes where we first set lines.
