Lake Erie 5/13/2020

I had the pleasure today of fishing with my daughter, Riley, along with her boyfriend, Gabe. We arrived at SSP rather late – like 9:45am and was welcome with an almost full parking lot. Those of you that are familiar with SSP know that’s a lot of boats – and probably all walleye fishing. Upon entering the lake, we seen packs of boats everywhere. There were only a few boats right in front of the SSP rock wall so we set up there. We had just got all the lines in the water at 10am (2-P10’s, 2-#7 Flickers, 2-DDHJ, 2-Bandits) when we had our first bite, then a quick double. It looked like avoiding the boats was the right move. It then slowed down for us so we turned around and went back over where we had the 3 bites and picked up a couple more. We kept straying away trying to find more fish, but really the only action was in that exact same spot so we stuck with it while we could. We ended up pulling lines at 1pm and had 9 walleye, 4 silver bass and 1 sheephead. We had 4 more fish on. We would have stayed longer, but we were no longer able to make passes through our spot and it got crowded fast and the wind really picked up making it difficult to go on a recon mission to find another school. All bites came on the Flicker Shads and DDHJ’s – nothing on Bandits or P10’s.
