First Salmon Mount

Ludington_Salmon_Mount

After 35 years of chasing Salmon, we finally had one mounted. Although we searched long and hard in 2019 for one of those 30 lb plus fish that seemed to be the norm on Lake Michigan all summer, we had to settle for a 26.5 King. Up until 2019, our boat best was 24 lbs which was beat a few times this past summer. This 26.5 hit a magnum Rasta Goose Dreamweaver spoon 100 down in 400 FOW on our last trip of 2019. It was a short but exciting fight with Mark Martino on the rod. It came up to the surface fairly quick and played around for a bit with about 50 foot of line out going from our port to our starboard church boards showing of it’s top fins like a cruising shark. Even though I used the word “settle”, this was a special fish capping off our best year in Ludington to date and we’ll now be able to remember it forever. I’ll settle for another year like 2019 anytime!
